Our Winning Record
Our record is unmatched. Unlike other law firms, personal injury law is all we do. Our expertise and formidable success record in court provides a powerful incentive for opponents to negotiate favourable client settlements out of court. Here are just some of our recent cases.
Smith v. Safranyos – Motor Vehicle Accident
A horrendous two car collision occurred in the City of Hamilton. A vehicle operated by Ms. Dawn Safranyos, carrying four children, failed to yield the right of way and was “T-boned” at highway speed by an approaching vehicle.
Sexual Assault Ruling
Mary Grosso recently won the Court’s agreement that a plaintiff client in a sexual assault case did not have to give records related to his financial situation to the defendant.
8 Million Dollar Win at the Supreme Court of Canada
After winning a groundbreaking negligence ruling and award of $8 million for our catastrophically injured client in court in Ontario, we were successful at the Ontario Court of Appeal and again at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Vehicle Accident – Romanoski Estate v. Seburn
Hooper Law’s advocacy resulted in the Court finding that the woman fit into the arguably unclear definitions of “spouse” in the applicable legislation, allowing her to be compensated for the life-changing loss of her partner, even though their daughter had not yet been born.
Lexfund v. Ferro
Mary Grosso advocated successfully for a group of clients who the Court found were unfairly treated by two different parties during the process of seeking compensation for their injuries.
Appeal and Request for Hearing – Licensee Issac Waxman
Mary Grosso successfully appealed a disciplinary ruling against a client to facilitate continuing his livelihood training horses.
Sexual Assault – K.T. v. Denis Vranich, Elixir and Paradise Lane Developments
The Judge awarded the Plaintiff $125,000 for pain and suffering, $25,000 for punitive damages, $75,000 for loss of earning capacity, $26,000 for future therapy costs and $48,753 for legal costs.
Spinal Cord Injury – Muir v. City of Brantford
Our client was rendered a quadriplegic after losing control of his bike along the Grand River. The City was ultimately found to be negligent for failing to notice and address unraveling pavement and loose rocks in such a dangerous location on the trail.
Slip and Fall – Cartner V. Burlington (City) and Crystal Shoes
The Judge awarded the Plaintiff $120,000 for pain and suffering, $171,000 for loss of past and future earnings capacity. The Judge awarded the Plaintiff’s husband $20,000 for loss of care, guidance and companionship.
Bain v. Black & Decker
The Judge accepted the claims made by the Plaintiff regarding her physical injuries and awarded her damages for these injuries caused by the defective hairdryer.
Alenezi v. Um Financial Inc.
After a mortgage company for no reason refused to advance funds just before the client’s house purchase closed, Mary won the case for the client against the mortgage company.
De Morales v. Lafontaine-Rish Medical Group Ltd
When a defendant tried to set aside a default judgment that Mary Grosso’s client got because the defendant didn’t defend the claim, Mary won the case to keep the judgment alive.
Lammie v. Gizzarelli
The judge ruled that the plaintiff (represented by Hooper Law) had suffered a serious, important and permanent impairment of her psychological ability to drive a vehicle.
Gardiner v. Fagan
The judge ruled that our client had suffered injuries in a car crash, resulting in chronic pain that seriously impaired her ability to work and carry on everyday life.
Waddington v. Niagara North Condominium Corp. No.125
A case in which Niagara North Condominiums applied for an order requiring our client to remove two cats from her apartment. The application was dismissed. Ms Waddington was awarded legal costs.
Tournay v. Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company
A case in which the plaintiff’s insurance company denied she was catastrophically injured, and was therefore not entitled to certain benefits. Rob Hooper succeeded in showing that the plaintiff’s injuries were catastrophic.
