Styres family suing shooter Khill for $2 million
Excerpt from Article from The Spec
The family of a slain Six Nations father of two is suing the man who shot him for more than $2 million as the fallout over the controversial criminal verdict continues.
Jonathan Styres’ spouse, Lindsay Hill, alleges Peter Khill shot Styres twice “as he fled from the property with the intention to kill.”
The statement of claim was filed Jan. 31, months before a jury found Khill not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter in a Hamilton courtroom Wednesday.
Khill argued he acted in self-defence, saying he feared for his life when Styres lifted his hands to “gun height,” a gesture that made him believe he was armed.
Styres didn’t have a gun.
