Crash victims shut out of formal participation in Red Hill Valley Parkway judicial inquiry
No crash victims or family members have been granted standing to formally participate in a judicial inquiry into Hamilton’s slippery Red Hill Valley Parkway mystery.
Some “devastated and disappointed” family members will likely seek to do so, said lawyer Rob Hooper, who represents 200-plus people in a parkway lawsuit but had also sought inquiry standing on their behalf.
He suggested it would be “bizarre” if the people most affected by the parkway mystery were unable to fully participate in the inquiry. “How else are citizens of Hamilton going to be represented?”
But the judge denied standing to a team of lawyers, including Hooper, who represent 200-plus Red Hill crash victims and families in a planned class-action lawsuit that, so far, has not been certified.
